The primary purpose of VETS is to provide veterans with family environment coping skills, life improving tools, and learned skills to improve their mental health and marketability in the job market and daily life. We provide instruction on various aspects of motorcycles, automotive, and structural mechanics. Additionally, we teach hobby skills in blade smithing, woodworking, paint and body work, and metal fabrication. Life skills are also a big part of VETS, we provide a veteran peer support group and a music program to provide group therapy options for as many demographics as we can reach. The programs are designed to help our veterans via distraction therapy-based programs, helping them to escape their depression state and deal with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and anxiety issues.
VETS was established by Rob and Stephanie Dinsmore in Alabama and the vision is to be a safe space for veterans. VETS began humbly in a garage with little fanfare. Today, we are operating in a commercial 3,600 square foot facility, providing targeted service to veterans and their families in our rural community.
VETS is one of the few, if not the only, veteran focused therapy organizations in Elmore County, Alabama. Since its official opening in 2019, as Operation Combat Bikesaver, we have consistently provided hands-on therapy. Beginning in May 2023, we added weekly veteran peer group sessions to better provide for our underserved veteran community. In April 2024 we re-branded as Veteran Education, Training, & Support Inc. to increase our focus on the struggling trades communities. Statistically, forty percent (40%) of veterans live in rural areas and very few resources are located in these communities. VETS fills this void.
